Sceptaspis was named by Ludvigsen and Chatterton (1982) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-l O Ashg-u Sepkoski's reference number: 392,690,795]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Eomonorachinae by Ludvigsen and Chatterton (1982); to Pterygometopidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002).
