It was reranked as the suborder Squalorajoidei by Delsate et al. (2002).

It was assigned to Chimaeriformes by Delsate et al. (2002); to Holocephalimorpha by Nelson (2006); to Holocephalomorpha by Long (2011), Nelson et al. (2016); and to Cochliodontomorpha by van der Laan (2019).
