Taxonomy
Gebia obscura was named by von Meyer (1834). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sulzbach (Soulz les bains), which is in an Aegean pond claystone in the Grès à Voltzia Formation of France.

It was recombined as Upogebia obscura by Schweitzer et al. (2010).
