Taxonomy
Coleia uzume was named by Karasawa et al. (2003). Its type specimen is MMHF-00039, a carapace, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Tsubuta MN-1, Sanyo-cho, Yamaguchi Prefecture, which is in a Julian marine shale in the Nakatsuka Formation of Japan.
