Gigoutella was named by Hupe (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto]. It is not extant. Its type is Gigoutella atlasensis.
It was assigned to Trilobita by Sepkoski (2002); and to Palaeolenidae by Jell and Adrain (2002), El Albani et al. (2024).
