Chirostylidae was named by Ortmann (1892). It is extant. Its type is Chirostylus.

It was assigned to Galatheoidea by Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Chirostyloidea by De Angeli and Ceccon (2017), Schweitzer et al. (2023).
