Phoreotropis was named by Raymond (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Trep]. It is not extant. Its type is Phoreotropis puteatus.

It was assigned to Trilobita by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pagodiidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
