Trachynotocarcinus was named by Wright and Collins (1972). It is not extant. Its type is Trachynotus sulcatus.
It was assigned to Dynomenidae by Schweitzer et al. (2003); and to Goniodromitidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Schweitzer et al. (2012), Schweitzer et al. (2016).
