Necrocarcinus renfroae was named by Stenzel (1945). It is the type species of Texicancer.
It was recombined as Cenomanocarcinus renfroae by Schweitzer et al. (2003), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Vega et al. (2010), Karasawa et al. (2014), Schweitzer et al. (2016); it was recombined as Hasaracancer renfroae by van Bakel et al. (2012); it was recombined as Texicancer renfroae by Franţescu et al. (2016), Schweitzer et al. (2018).
It was recombined as Cenomanocarcinus renfroae by Schweitzer et al. (2003), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Vega et al. (2010), Karasawa et al. (2014), Schweitzer et al.
