Archaeolepas was named by Zittel (1885) [Sepkoski's age data: J Kimm K Albi]. It is the type genus of Archaeolepadidae.
It was assigned to Scalpellidae by Brooks et al. (1969); to Eolepadinae by Buckeridge (1983); to Cirripedia by Sepkoski (2002); to Thoracicalcarea by Gale (2016); and to Archaeolepadidae by Chan et al. (2021).
