Titanolepas was named by Withers (1913) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno K Sn Sepkoski's reference number: 346]. Its type is Scalpellum tuberculatum. It is the type genus of Titanolepadidae.

It was reranked as Calantica (Titanolepas) by Withers (1913).

It was assigned to Calantica by Withers (1913); to Cirripedia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Titanolepadidae by Gale (2015), Chan et al. (2021).
