Taxonomy
Virgiscalpellum was named by Withers (1935) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-l K Maes-u]. Its type is Scalpellum beisseli. It is the type genus of Virgiscalpellinae.

It was assigned to Cirripedia by Sepkoski (2002); to Scalpellinae by Alekseev (2009); and to Virgiscalpellinae by Gale (2020), Chan et al. (2021).
