Lysiosquilla was named by Dana (1852) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 1262]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Lysiosquilloidea, Lysiosquillidae.
It was assigned to Squillidae by Glaessner (1969); to Stomatopoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lysiosquillidae by Schram (2010).
