Taxonomy
Ranina ombonii was named by Fabiani (1910).

It was recombined as Laeviranina ombonii by Beschin et al. (1988); it was recombined as Raninoides ombonii by Beschin et al. (2013); it was recombined as Quasilaeviranina ombonii by Tucker (1998), Beschin et al. (2009), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Beschin et al. (2016).
