Aratidecthes was named by Schram (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: C Mosc-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Aratidecthes johnsoni. It is the type genus of Aratidecthidae.
It was assigned to Kallidecthidae by Schram (1969); to Aratidecthidae by Schram (1979); and to Aeschronectida by Sepkoski (2002).
