Taxonomy
Archaeoplax was named by Stimpson (1863) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Archaeoplax signifera.

It was synonymized subjectively with Retropluma by Collins and Morris (1975).

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Geryonidae by Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006), Karasawa et al. (2008), Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Geryoninae by Schweitzer et al. (2021).
