Taxonomy
Calappilia maxwelli was named by Feldmann (1993). Its type specimen is AR927, an exoskeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Hollands Point, which is in an Otaian marine horizon in the Pakaurangi Formation of New Zealand.
