Cancrinos was named by Munster (1839) [Sepkoski's age data: J Tith-l Sepkoski's reference number: 75]. It is not extant. Its type is Cancrinos claviger. It is the type genus of Cancrinidae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cancrinidae by Garassino and Schweigert (2006), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Schweitzer et al. (2015).
