Cancer japonicus was named by Ortmann (1893). It is extant. It is the type species of Anatolikos.
It was recombined as Cancer (Cancer) japonicus by Karasawa (1993); it was recombined as Anatolikos japonicus by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2000) and Schweitzer et al. (2010).
