Taxonomy
Plagiolophus markgrafi was named by Lőrenthey (1907). It is the type species of Karasawaia.

It was recombined as Karasawaia markgrafi by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Feldmann et al. (2011), Luque et al. (2017), Schweitzer and Feldmann (2019).
