Taxonomy
Portunites macrospinus was named by Schweitzer et al. (2000). Its type specimen is CM 45833, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pulali Point, Aldwell Formation, which is in an Eocene marine conglomerate/siltstone in the Aldwell Formation of Washington.
It was recombined as Megokkos macrospinus by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2000), Nyborg et al. (2003), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Schweitzer et al. (2021).
