Hellerocaris was named by Van Straelen (1924) [Sepkoski's age data: J m]. It is not extant. Its type is Palaeopolycheles falloti.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Coleiidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Feldmann et al. (2013).
