Homarus was named by Weber (1795) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Homarinae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Homarinae by Glaessner (1969) and Verheyden (2002); and to Nephropidae by Tshudy and Sorhannus (2000), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Feldmann et al. (2016).
