Taxonomy

Strepsodus was named by Huxley and Etheridge (1865). It is not extant. Its type is Holoptychius sauroides.

It was assigned to Megalichthyidae by Hay (1902); to Rhizodontida by Jeffery (2006); and to Rhizodontidae by Woodward (1891), Andrews (1985), Jeffery (2002), Johanson (2004), Jeffery (2012).
