Micromithrax grippi was named by Müller (1974). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Budapest-Budatétény, area G, which is in a Badenian marine horizon in Hungary.
It was recombined as Trachypirimela grippi by Muller (1979), Müller (1984), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Schweitzer et al. (2021).
