Taxonomy
Portunites vicksburgensis was named by Stenzel (1935) [Necronectes vaughani Rathbun n. sp. 1935 = N. vicksburgensis (Stenzel, 1935).]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Mint Spring Bayou Decapods, which is in an Oligocene carbonate marl/mixed carbonate-siliciclastic in Mississippi.
It was recombined as Necronectes vicksburgensis by Schweitzer et al. (2002), Schweitzer et al. (2010).
