Taxonomy
Harpactocarcinus mississippiensis was named by Rathbun (1935). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Yazoo City, which is in an Eocene marine limestone in the Jackson Formation of Mississippi.
It was recombined as Palaeocarpilius mississippiensis by Schweitzer (2003), Schweitzer et al. (2010).
