Taxonomy
Cancer quadrilobatus was named by Desmarest (1822). It is the type species of Harpactoxanthopsis.
It was recombined as Harpactocarcinus quadrilobatus by Bittner (1875), Bittner (1883) and Lörenthey (1898); it was recombined as Harpactoxanthopsis quadrilobata by Via (1959), Beschin et al. (1994), Beschin et al. (1998), Beschin et al. (2005), Beschin et al. (2009), Hyžný (2010) and Beschin et al. (2010); it was recombined as Harpactoxanthopsis quadrilobatus by Via (1991), Schweitzer (2003), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Beschin et al. (2012), Beschin et al. (2013), De Angeli and Bellin (2015) and Schweitzer et al. (2018).
