Tetralia was named by Dana (1851). It is extant. It is the type genus of Tetraliidae.
It was assigned to Eriphinae by Dana (1851); to Xanthidae by Muller and Collins (1991); to Trapeziidae by Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006); and to Tetraliidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010), De Angeli et al. (2010), Beschin et al. (2016), Beschin et al. (2018), Schweitzer et al. (2021).
