Notopoides was named by Henderson (1888) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 961]. It is extant. Its type is Notopoides latus.
It was assigned to Raninidae by Beschin et al. (1988); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Raninoidinae by Schweitzer et al. (2010), van Bakel et al. (2012), Beschin et al. (2013), Karasawa et al. (2014), Beschin et al. (2016), Martínez-Díaz et al. (2017), Luque et al. (2017), Schweitzer et al. (2018).
