Oplophorus was named by Milne-Edwards (1837) [Sepkoski's age data: J Call R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Oplophoroidea, Oplophoridae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Oplophoridae by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Schweitzer et al. (2023).
