Taxonomy
Ovalipes was named by Rathbun (1898) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Ovalipidae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Portunidae by Glaessner (1960), Feldmann and Keys (1992), Karasawa and Schweitzer (2006); to Polybiinae by Karasawa et al. (2008), Schweitzer et al. (2010); to Ovalipidae by Luque et al. (2017); and to Ovalipinae by Schweitzer et al. (2021).
