Taxonomy
Palaeomunida was named by Lorenthey (1902) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m T Eo-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Palaeomunida defecta.

It was reranked as Galathea (Palaeomunida) by Muller and Collins (1991).

It was assigned to Galatheinae by Bishop (1985); to Galathea by Muller and Collins (1991); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Galatheidae by De Angeli and Beschin (2008), Schweitzer et al. (2010), De Angeli et al. (2010), Beschin et al. (2018) and Schweitzer et al. (2023).
