Taxonomy
Palaeonephrops was named by Mertin (1941) [Sepkoski's age data: K Sn]. It is not extant. Its type is Hoploparia browni.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Nephropidae by Dana (1852), Tshudy and Sorhannus (2000), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Feldmann et al. (2016).
