Palaeopalaemon was named by Whitfield (1880) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-u Sepkoski's reference number: 356]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Palaeopalaemonidae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Palaeopalaemonidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Feldmann et al. (2013), Feldmann and Schweitzer (2019).
