Taxonomy
Palaeopentacheles was named by Von Knebel (1907) [Sepkoski's age data: J Tith-l Sepkoski's reference number: 75]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Palaeopentachelidae.

It was assigned to Polychelidae by Schweitzer and Feldmann (2001); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Palaeopentachelidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Feldmann et al. (2013).
