Palibacus was named by Forster (1984) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Ibacus praecursor.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Scyllaridae by Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2015).
