Taxonomy
Praeatya was named by Woodward (1868) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett J Plie Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is not extant. Its type is Praeatya scabrosa.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Mecochiridae by Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Cancrinidae by Schweitzer et al. (2015).
