Taxonomy
Ranina was named by Feldmann et al. (1996). Its type is Cancer raninus. It is the type genus of Raninidae, Raninoidea.
It was assigned to Raninidae by Lörenthey (1898), Rathbun (1926), Rathbun (1930), Rathbun (1935) and Squires and Demetrion (1992); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ranininae by de Haan (1839), Schweitzer and Feldmann (2002), Schweitzer et al. (2006), Ng et al. (2009), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Karasawa et al. (2014), Luque et al. (2017) and Schweitzer et al. (2018).
It was assigned to Raninidae by Lörenthey (1898), Rathbun (1926), Rathbun (1930), Rathbun (1935) and Squires and Demetrion (1992); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Ranininae by de Haan (1839), Schweitzer and Feldmann (2002), Schweitzer et al.
