Taxonomy
Harpacanthus was named by Traquair (1886). It is not extant. Its type is Tristychius fimbriatus. It is the type genus of Harpacanthidae.
It was assigned to Ichthyodorulites by Hay (1902); to Holocephalimorpha by Lund and Grogan (2004); and to Harpacanthidae by Schnetz et al. (2024).
