Taxonomy
Tumidocarcinus was named by Glaessner (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u T Mi-u]. Its type is Harpactocarcinus tumidus. It is the type genus of Tumidocarcinidae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Xanthidae by Glaessner (1960), Feldmann and Keys (1992), Aguirre-Urreta (1995) and Feldmann et al. (2003); and to Tumidocarcinidae by Schweitzer (2005), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2018).
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Xanthidae by Glaessner (1960), Feldmann and Keys (1992), Aguirre-Urreta (1995) and Feldmann et al. (2003); and to Tumidocarcinidae by Schweitzer (2005), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2018).

The differences from Xanthopsis are the greater length of the antero-lateral margin and the absence of elevated bosses on the carapace. |
