Vectis was named by Withers (1946) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-l]. Its type is Vectis wrighti.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Glaessneropsidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Schweitzer et al. (2012); and to Viaiidae by van Bakel et al. (2020).
