Taxonomy
Cretitanais was named by Schram et al. (1986) [Sepkoski's age data: K Haut-l Sepkoski's reference number: 724]. Its type is Ophthalmapseudes giganteus. It is the type genus of Cretitanaoidea, Cretitanaidae.

It was assigned to Cretitanaidae by Schram et al. (1986); and to Tanaidacea by Sepkoski (2002).
