Taxonomy
Spirifer rectangulus was named by Kutorga (1844). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Brachythyrina rectangulus by Waterhouse (1981); it was recombined as Brachythyrina rectangula by Glushenko (1975), Li and Gu (1980), Tazawa et al. (2022) and Xu et al. (2024).
