Kiesowia was named by Ulrich and Bassler (1908) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-l S Ldov Sepkoski's reference number: 78,855,999]. Its type is Beyrichia dissecta.

It was assigned to Sigmoopsiinae by Henningsmoen (1953); to Quadrijugatoridae by Benson et al. (1961); to Palaeocopida by Sepkoski (2002); to Sigmoopsinae by Schallreuter and Hinz-Schallreuter (2011); and to Tetradellidae by Mohibullah et al. (2013).
