Notopella was named by Lorenthey (1929). It is not extant. Its type is Notopella vareolata.

It was synonymized subjectively with Ranilia by Schweitzer et al. (2010).

It was assigned to Notopodinae by De Angeli and Beschin (2007), van Bakel et al. (2012), Karasawa et al. (2014), Schweitzer et al. (2018).
