Rigidella was named by Opik (1937) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-l O Aren-u Sepkoski's reference number: 78]. Its type is Steusloffia mitis.

It was assigned to Bassleratiinae by Henningsmoen (1953); to Quadrijugatoridae by Benson et al. (1961); and to Palaeocopida by Sepkoski (2002).
