Taxonomy
Onychaster velbertensis was named by Haude and Thomas (1983). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Holotype Go-850/59-5a. Its type locality is Site 2, Autobahnknoten Langenhorst, Asterozoans, which is in a Famennian marine shale in Germany.
