Thomasatia was named by Kay (1934) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-l O Cara-m].

It was assigned to Bassleratiidae by Benson et al. (1961); to Bassleratiinae by Schallreuter (1993); and to Palaeocopida by Sepkoski (2002).
