Taxonomy
Tvaerenella was named by Jaanusson (1957) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llvi-l O Ashg-l Sepkoski's reference number: 78,855]. It is the type genus of Tvaerenellidae.

It was assigned to Tvaerenellidae by Benson et al. (1961); to Palaeocopida by Sepkoski (2002); to Tvaerenellinae by Schallreuter and Hinz-Schallreuter (2011); and to Piretellidae by Abushik and Evdokimova (2016).
